Gifting now available via gift funds

Supporters can now send send gift funds to friends or family, who can then use those funds to buy lottery tickets on your platform. Gift ticketing is a flexible new way for supporters to share the excitement of your lottery with the people they care about.

    Why this matters

Until now, supporters had no native way to give someone else the chance to enter a draw. Gift ticketing changes that by letting supporters send funds directly to a recipient's account, where they can be used to purchase tickets just like any other wallet credit.

    What's new

    Sending a gift

Supporters can send gift funds to one or more recipients directly from their account. From the Send a Gift page, they choose an amount (within your configured minimum and maximum), add recipients manually or upload a CSV file in bulk, and choose whether to send immediately or schedule the gift for a future date and time (up to 365 days in advance by default).

Recipients must be confirmed as over 18 before the gift can be added to the cart.

Gift funds are paid for by the sender immediately.

    Receiving a gift

When a gift arrives, the recipient gets a notification email with a link to their account. On their next login, a modal appears confirming the gift has been received, with options to view their wallet or go straight to buying tickets.

Gift funds land in the recipient's bonus funds wallet and can be used at checkout just like any other wallet balance. Each gift deposit shows in the supporter's bonus funds page, including any expiry date that applies.

For new supporters who have never registered, a partial account is created from the details entered by the sender. The recipient receives a Complete account link in their email so they can finish signing up and access their funds.

A script runs every 15 minutes which triggers the delivery of gift funds.

Scheduling gifts for a future date

Supporters can choose to send a gift later by selecting a date, time, and timezone on the Send a Gift page. Gifts are processed at the scheduled time and all scheduling is handled automatically.

    Cancelling and editing gifts

Operators can cancel a gift purchase or edit recipient details from the customer profile in Admin, as long as the funds have not yet been sent. A gift can be cancelled if it has a status of Created or Scheduled. Recipients can be edited if the gift is in Created, Scheduled, or Failed status.

How gift funds interact with bonus funds

By default, supporters cannot use their existing bonus funds balance to purchase a gift. The REWARDS_FUNDS_FOR_GIFTING configuration is disabled out of the box. If a supporter has bonus funds in their wallet when they go to checkout a gift purchase, a warning is shown and they are prompted to pay the full amount via another payment method. This behaviour can be changed in configuration if you want to allow bonus funds to be used for gifting.

    How to enable

Gift ticketing is controlled by a set of configuration items in JLP Admin. The key items are:

    • GIFTING.enabled — enables the gifting feature on your platform
    • GIFTING.minimum_amount — sets the minimum gift amount (default: $5)
    • GIFTING.maximum_amount — sets the maximum gift amount (default: $4,999)
    • GIFTING.maximum_scheduling_days — sets how far ahead a gift can be scheduled (default: 365 days)
    • CLIENT_CAPABILITY_WALLET_BONUS — controls whether the bonus funds page and wallet summary are visible to supporters
    • REWARDS_FUNDS_FOR_GIFTING — controls whether bonus funds can be used to purchase gifts (default: false)

Navigate to Admin > Operations > Platform Configs > Site Config > Gifting Settings to review and update these values. Two system email templates also need to be enabled: Gift Purchase Confirmation and Gift Received Confirmation, found under Admin > Marketing > Emails > System Emails.

The Send a Gift page is accessible from the supporter's My Account page by default. Additional navigation links can be added via Admin > Content > Site Config.

    Who this impacts

Gift ticketing is available to any partner with the feature enabled on their JLP platform. Reach out to your Customer Success manager to discuss enabling it for your supporters.
