How supporters send a gift

    About gift ticketing

Gift ticketing lets a supporter buy a dollar amount of gift funds and send it to one or more recipients. The recipient can then put gift funds towards lottery tickets or a VIP subscription.

Gifting is available on web only. It is not available in the iOS or Android apps.

Gift ticketing must be enabled on your platform before supporters can send gifts. See Managing gift ticketing for the enablement steps, or contact your Customer Success manager if gifting is not yet active.

    Sending a gift

To purchase a gift, the supporter completes the following steps.

    • Log in and go to the My Account page.
    • Select Send a Gift.
    • Select a gift amount from the preset options, or enter a custom amount.
    • Choose whether to send the gift now or schedule it for a future date and time.
    • Select Add a recipient and enter the recipient's first name, last name, email address, and an optional personal message.
    • Repeat this step for each additional recipient, confirming they are over the age of 18.
    • Select Add to cart and complete checkout as normal.

Every recipient on a single gift purchase receives the same amount. The total cart value is the gift amount multiplied by the number of recipients.

    Sending to multiple recipients

Supporters can add recipients one at a time, or upload a list via CSV.

    CSV file requirements

    RequirementDetail
    Maximum rows1,000 recipients per file
Required columnsFirst name, last name, email address
    Optional columnPersonal message
Set outside the fileGift amount and send date, which apply to every recipient in the upload

The gift amount and send date are not set per row. They are chosen once and applied to the whole file, so a supporter who wants to send different amounts needs to make a separate purchase for each amount.

    Validation on upload

The file is validated before it reaches the cart. Recipients who are self-excluded or banned are rejected and reported back, so the supporter can correct the list and try again.

Note: Email addresses are not validated beyond format. If a supporter enters the wrong address, the gift will be sent to whoever holds that address. There is no way to recall a gift once it has sent.

    Scheduling a gift

A gift can be sent immediately or scheduled for a future date and time. Scheduled gifts are processed automatically at the time the supporter chooses.

Gifts can be scheduled up to 365 days in advance. This is a platform limit and is not configurable per partner.

Scheduled gifts can be cancelled or have their recipient details corrected up until the moment they send. Once sent, neither is possible.

    Paying for a gift

The supporter is charged at the time they create the gift, not at the time it is delivered. A gift scheduled three months out is paid for today.

    Funds that cannot be used

Two balances cannot be spent on a gift purchase.

    • Bonus funds. By default a supporter cannot use an existing bonus funds balance to buy a gift. If they have bonus funds in their wallet at checkout, they will see a warning and be prompted to pay the full gift amount by another method. Their bonus funds balance is not affected.
    • Gift funds. A supporter cannot use gift funds they have received to buy a gift for someone else.

    What happens next

Once checkout is complete, the supporter receives a Gift Purchase Confirmation email, and each recipient receives a Gift Received email at the scheduled send time. For what the recipient sees and how they spend the funds, see How supporters receive and use a gift.
