Supporters who reach their saved-card limit can now add a new card without getting stuck. When this feature is turned on, the Jumbo Lottery Platform (JLP) removes the supporter’s oldest eligible saved card to make room, so payments keep working across web, mobile apps and point of sale (POS).
Why this matters
Supporters build up saved cards over time. Once they reach the limit set for your lottery, they can’t add a new card, and payment can stall. This is especially hard at POS, where operators often can’t remove cards themselves and may have to take payment outside the platform. Most of these extra cards are old and no longer used, so clearing them out keeps the supporter’s card list current without changing the limit itself.
What’s new
Oldest card removed when a new card is added
When a supporter at their saved-card limit adds a new card, JLP automatically removes their oldest saved card. The new card is saved and the purchase goes through as normal.
Default and in-use cards are protected
Some cards are never removed automatically:
- The supporter’s default card, so subscriptions keep working
- Any card linked to an active scheduled purchase
If the oldest card is protected, JLP removes the next oldest eligible card instead.
Works across all channels
This applies wherever a supporter adds a card, including:
- Web
- iOS and Android apps
- POS
Apple Pay and Google Pay work the same way when they’re used for a subscription purchase. For standard (one-off) purchases, Apple Pay and Google Pay don’t save a card, so no card is added or removed.
Saved-card limit stays in place
The saved-card limit (NUMBER_CREDIT_CARDS_ALLOWED) doesn’t change. It still sets the maximum number of cards a supporter can hold.
Note: If every saved card is protected, for example the default card plus cards linked to scheduled purchases, the supporter will still see the existing message saying they can’t add more cards.
Note: Supporters don’t receive an email when a card is removed.
Who this impacts
This feature is turned off by default. It’s most useful for operators whose supporters regularly reach their saved-card limit, particularly at POS.
How to enable
Before this feature is turned on, add-card rate limiting must be enabled to help prevent card washing:
CARD_ADD_RATE_ALERT_AFTERCARD_ADD_RATE_ALERT_INTERVALCARD_ADD_RATE_AUTO_LOCK_ENABLED
Once that’s in place, enable AUTO_DEACTIVATE_OLDEST_CARD_ENABLED. Contact your Customer Success Manager if you’d like it turned on for your lottery.
